  • An overhead view of a roof with shingles, a vent, and trees in the background.

  • Tab Shingles

Tab shingles have been around a long time and are made from a base material with a single layer of asphalt, creating a flat, slate-like appearance. The asphalt protects against the elements and also adds weight to help the shingles lie flat and resist wind uplift. They have a variety of special adhesives to bond them together, providing additional protection in resisting wind uplift and preventing water penetration from wind-driven rain.

  • View of a residential roof with gray shingles, a central ridge, and a chimney in a suburban setting.

  • Architectural Shingles

Architectural shingles are manufactured using a heavy base mat fused with multiple layers of asphalt for a thicker, multi-dimensional appearance. They are designed to replicate the wood shake and natural slate roofing styles. Dimensional shingles are heavier than 3-tab shingles and able to withstand stronger winds and more intense weather conditions.

  • Gray asphalt shingle roof with multiple gabled sections; some with wooden beam accents.

  • Class 3 Impact Rated Shingles

Class 3 Impact rated shingles are designed to withstand higher levels of impact from hail and other debris. This offers homeowners a more durable and longer-lasting solution. The thickness of the shingles is increased, and the composition of the granules is altered to get the desired strength.

  • Hailstones on a textured, asphalt shingle roof. The ice appears irregular, with one centered.

  • Class 4 Impact Rated Shingles

This is the highest level of impact resistance asphalt shingle manufacturers have to offer. These shingles are tested by a process that would replicate the impacts of 2-inch hail without splitting or tearing.
